A few campuses are setting AI rules subject by subject. The Indian Express reported that IISER Pune, from this semester, allows AI unless a teacher or PhD supervisor forbids it in writing. At IIM Ahmedabad, professors are asking students to use AI to summarise long cases before class. At IIM Bangalore, 78 MBA students were allowed to use chatbots they had built, in one controlled midterm on generative AI.
That is not the rule for an SBTET, JNTU, or any other university paper unless your own notice says so. The line that matters is the one on the question paper and the department circular. If the exam forbids phones and outside help, an AI tab is still outside help.
Before an internal test, ask whether AI is allowed for that paper. A policy used at an IIM does not apply to your hall ticket.
